An Israeli air strike on Gaza hit the home of a paediatrician, Dr Alaa al-Najjar, killing nine of her 10 children. The hospital where she works said one child and her husband were injured but survived. Israel's military said its aircraft struck "a number of suspects" in the area and that the claim of harm to civilians is under review. The strike has been condemned as "unbearably cruel" by a British surgeon working at the hospital. The Israeli military has said it evacuated civilians from the area before beginning operations, but the health ministry said at least 74 people were killed in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday midday. The strike is part of a wider conflict that has seen at least 53,901 people killed in Gaza since Israel launched a military campaign in response to a Hamas cross-border attack on October 7, 2023.

Nearly 80 people were killed in recent Israeli strikes in Gaza, including nine of a doctor's 10 children. The doctor, a pediatrician at Nasser Hospital, was on duty when her home was hit, killing her children aged between seven months and 12 years. The Israeli military said it struck suspects operating from a structure near its forces and claimed to have evacuated civilians, but the Gaza Health Ministry said hospitals in the north are inaccessible. The death toll since October 7, 2023, has risen to 53,901, with over 3,700 killed since Israel resumed fighting in March. Aid is slowly entering Gaza, but it's far less than before, and the UN has rejected a new aid delivery system proposed by Israel. The Israeli military has also been accused of using Palestinians as human shields, a practice it denies, despite allegations from seven Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers.

Nine of a Gazan doctor's 10 children were killed in an Israeli missile strike on their home in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The doctor, Alaa Al Najjar, a paediatrician, was at work during the attack, while her husband, Hamdi Al Najjar, also a doctor, was left in a critical condition. The couple's surviving 11-year-old son was badly injured. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said they struck a structure adjacent to their troops in the area, and claimed to have evacuated civilians beforehand, but said the claim of harm to uninvolved civilians was under review.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the limited aid allowed into Gaza, describing it as a "teaspoon" compared to the "flood of assistance" required, as at least 60 people died in Israeli airstrikes overnight. Israel has allowed around 300 aid trucks into Gaza since lifting an 11-week blockade, but only a third have reached warehouses due to insecurity, with many of Gaza's 2 million residents at risk of famine. Guterres warned that more people will die unless there is "rapid, reliable, safe and sustained aid access".
