Rescue Efforts Underway for Trapped Chile Miners

Rescuers in Chile are racing to save four trapped miners after a mine collapse caused by an earthquake killed at least one person. The body of one miner was found on Saturday at the El Teniente copper mine, 70km south-east of Santiago, and rescue efforts are ongoing to clear blocked passageways to reach the remaining miners.

Rescue crews searching for five Chilean miners trapped in a copper mine since a collapse on Thursday have discovered a body, with the identity yet to be confirmed. The mine collapsed after a 4.2-magnitude tremor, and crews are drilling through 90m of rock to reach the remaining four miners. The search is ongoing, with teams having cleared just over a fifth of the blocked tunnels.
